#189 Offspring – Smash (2004)

The Offspring’s album “Smash” spent a considerable amount of time in my disc player during the summer of 1994 while sitting in the backyard of our house in Blaine, beer in hand. From the first time I heard “Come Out & Play” I was hooked. And who can forget hearing the words “You Gotta Keep ‘Em Separated..” before the song launched into a power punk/pop orgasm. Truly a classic. The album’s second single followed the same pop punk formula. The song “Self-Esteem” is about a relationship filled with emotional abuse told from the man’s perspective, where he can muster up enough self-esteem to leave her. There are other solid tunes on this offering such as “Bad Habit”, but make no mistake that the 2 power punk anthems drove this disc to 6 million in sales.
