#177 Tone Loc – Loc’d After Dark (1988)

Tone Loc might be billed as a rapper, I would tend to call him more hip-hop. All semantics aside, he quite simply blew up this hybrid dance/rap/hip-hop style of music to the white kids in the burbs. Both “Wild Thing” & “Funky Cold Medina” were mega smash songs that would blow out of the Impala on the way to Crooked Lake Beach or Lake Nokomis on summer days in ’88. I don’t think I can really add much to that. There were other songs on this disc that were just plain fun. Playful “I Got It Goin’ On” & “The Homies” were fun tunes to pop into the cassette player. And then of course there was the dope smokers classic “Cheeba,Cheeba”. Either ya get it….or ya don’t. “Please, baby baby, please..”
